2007 and 2006 Red Burgundies (Mar 2009)

Good medium red, a bit less saturated than the old-vines village wine. Very ripe, multifaceted nose offers dark raspberry, dried flowers and pungent pepper and mineral notes; an essence of Burgundy. Then vibrant and penetrating in the mouth, and a step up in class from the village wines. The bitter cherry fruit is framed and intensified by peppery, spicy lift. Mounting ripe tannins coat the molars. This really stains the palate and sides of the tongue and yet it shows a much lighter touch-and much more finishing perfume-than Esmonin’s village wines. A superb showing today, with more to come.
