2008 Red Burgundies (Mar 2011)

Good full red. Very ripe aromas of dark berry jam, musky coffee and smoke; almost syrah-like. A big, rich, sweet style of 2008: I’m not sure I would have picked the vintage. Superripe and voluminous wine with a very long, broad finish and the tannins of a riper year. This has put on considerable weight since I tasted it from barrel in November of 2009. Yves Confuron maintains that the 2009 version will be more complex following its elevage, but today I prefer this wine, which is less extreme in comparison.
