2016 Bordeaux…It’s All In The Bottle (Jan 2019)

Ripeness is pushed to the edge in the 2016 Puygueraud. Black cherry, plum, chocolate , spice and licorice are all pushed forward in this fleshy, succulent Côtes de Bordeaux. Dense and powerful, the 2016 packs a serious punch. I would give the 2016 another year or two in bottle to see if the tannins soften a bit. Today, the 2016 is a bit hard for a wine meant for near and mid-term drinking, but a bit of cellaring should help. Nicolas Thienpont gave the 2016 12-14 months of aging, 80% in barrel and 20% in cement. Tasted three times.
