2018 Burgundy: Confounded Expectations (Jan 2020)

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echézeaux, a métayage since 2016, has a vibrant black cherry and cassis bouquet that is rich and opulent, yet still nicely controlled. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity, and quite compact on the back end. The grippy, slightly hard finish will soften during the remainder of its élevage.
