2018 Burgundy: Confounded Expectations (Jan 2020)

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Village, aged in one-third new oak, has the best aromatics among Michel Gros’s Village Crus, with crushed violet infusing the quite precocious red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. The oak feels more integrated here compared to the Nuits Saint-Georges, and the lovely finish is smooth and harmonious. Recommended.
