A Century of Bordeaux: The Eights (May 2018)

The 1998 Domaine de l’Eglise is far better than the 1988 tasted alongside. This is much fresher and vibrant on the nose with black cherries, bergamot, bacon fat, a touch of glycerol and spice. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a touch of cough mixture infused the red berry fruit with clove and bay leaf, a pinch of white pepper towards the mature finish. It is not an exciting Pomerol per se, but it has lasted well for a 20 year old wine. 88Tasted at the château.
