A Century of Bordeaux: The Eights (May 2018)

The 1998 Saint-Pierre offers blackberry, sage, cedar and tobacco on the nose, funnily enough not quite as expressive as the 1988 from magnum at this stage. It probably just needs some time to open. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a little green on the entry but nothing to get concerned about. And that dissipates towards the ferrous, spicy second half that displays commendable depth with a tang of orange rind right on the finish. Not bad at all. Tasted at the château.
