A Century of Bordeaux: The Nines (Sep 2019)

The 1999 Les Ormes de Pez is a vintage that I have not tasted before. Its appearance is more mature than its 20 years would suggest. The nose is a little diffuse; touches of potpourri and musk infuse the loose-knit red fruit, and a touch of brick dust emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin and very rustic in style, with a light, meaty finish that is missing some grip. This is rather disappointing at 20 years and should be drunk soon. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the estate.
