A Century of Bordeaux: The Nines (Sep 2019)

The 1999 Figeac is fully mature on the nose, but attractive, with iron ore and roasted chestnut infusing the loose-knit red fruit. The medium-bodied palate offers grainy tannin and a rather monotone midpalate. I feel that here the Cabernet does not quite reach full ripeness, sauntering toward a rather predictable, slightly rustic finish that is highlighted by the exemplary 2016 tasted alongside. Drink soon. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the estate.
