A Century of Bordeaux: The Twos (Sep 2022)

The 1982 La Mission Haut-Brion is very similar to the one tasted in Hong Kong. Quite exotic on the nose, much more than Haut-Brion. There is that signature eucalyptus touch on the nose mixed with plenty of black fruit, though it lacks the pedigree of the First Growth. The palate is powerful with pliant tannins, quite candied with just a touch of menthol, hints of blue fruit emerging towards the finish. Fine salinity throughout, it is a 1982 that seems to try too hard to keep up with its peers, yet it is still very pleasurable after four decades. Tasted blind at the “Two” dinner at Domaine de Chevalier.
