A Century of…Fours (Jun 2024)

The 2004 Phélan Ségur has a surprisingly forward nose, quite meaty in style. There is a touch of Brettanomyces that cannot be avoided, but it is integrated with the wine. The palate is medium-bodied, and here, I think that the Brettanomyces impinges a little too much on the wine, and it feels a little sweaty saddle on the finish. It’s still enjoyable but undeniably a bit rustic.
