A Test Of Greatness: 2009 Bordeaux Ten Years On (March 2019)

The 2009 Beychevelle is well-knit and initially broody on the nose, although it opens nicely with blackberry, briary, tobacco and light mineral aromas, becoming almost pastille-like with continued aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, quite savory and meaty in style with brown spices and even a hint of curry leaf towards the fleshy and quite persistent finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.
