A Vintage with Issues: Burgundy 2021 (Oct 2025)

The 2021 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru is another example of a reduced white burgundy, although it is not as heavy as Bachelet’s Champlots. It does, however, miss a bit of complexity and personality. The palate is quite sharp on the entry with pointed citric acidity that does not quite gel with the rest of the wine, and there is some attenuation towards the finish. This is a good wine upended by the SO2. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
