Against All Odds: Washington State’s 2020s and 2019s (Mar 2023)

Dried and spiced lemon rinds, wet stone, vanilla bean and hints of petrol keep me coming back to the glass again and again as the 2019 Dry Riesling Eroica XLC slowly comes to life. It’s silky and potent, with masses of ripe yellow and green citrus that leans more toward the tropical spectrum with each passing sip. The palate reels with salty tension through the finale as the cheeks pucker and residual acids force the mouth to water. Well done, the Eroica clocks in at 7.2 grams of residual sugar and 8.9 grams of total acidity. It really packs a punch.
