An Exploration of Time: Gruaud Larose 1831-2018 (Mar 2024)

The 2011 Gruaud Larose has a straightforward nose with tobacco and cedar notes, though, as expected, there is not as much fruit as the previous two vintages. It feels a little austere and almost mean. The palate is medium-bodied with dark berries, allspice and a licorice hint. It actually finishes more strongly with fine tannins and decent length, but it just suffers from that slow start. Tasted at the Gruaud Larose vertical at the château in February 2023.
