Barolo and Barbaresco (Nov 2013)

Good bright red. Musky, youthfully inexpressive aromas of strawberry and flowers. Juicy, spicy and nicely delineated if a bit ungiving today, with strong acidity keeping the aromatic red berry and floral flavors under wraps. This clean but tight young wine finishes with smooth tannins and lovely lingering perfume. Probably a lot silkier than it’s showing today, this wine calls for at least a few years of cellaring. (Incidentally, two different bottles of the Barolo Castellero were too musky to judge; neither one of them appeared to have a perfect cork.)
