Barolo and Barbaresco (Nov 2013)

Good deep, bright red. Aromas and flavors of black cherry, licorice and menthol are complicated by balsamic and aromatic herb nuances. Then tighter and earthier on the palate than the 2010, showing excellent density and firm but essentially suave tannins. Finishes with excellent persistence. Here’s a 2009 Barolo that demands cellaring. (I rated the library release of the 2005 at 94; its serious toothcoating tannins still call for some patience.)
