Burgundy With A Bit of Age: 2000-2014 (May 2019)

The 2001 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru is ageing nicely with 17-years now on the clock. It has a comely, well-defined bouquet that is endowed with the subtle exoticism you seek from this prestigious Premier Cru: red fruit, hints of balsamic, wild mint and forest floor. It has a slight melted quality, yet very harmonious. The palate is well balanced and conveys a sense of natural elegance. There is fine weight in the mouth and it actually coalesces and gains body with aeration, its component parts slotting together to form a smooth, slightly gamey finish. What a great wine and maybe just approaching its peak. Tasted at Empire restaurant in Hong Kong.
