Burgundy With Plenty Of Age: 1865-1999 (May 2019)

The 1990 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru is a wine that I am certain I tasted before, but turns out to be our first acquaintance. It has an ethereal bouquet with bewitching delineation and grace, replete with red cherries and crushed strawberry, rose petal and a very subtle marine influence. There is not a trace of the warm summer here, the terroir more articulated than the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, very harmonious and graceful, a svelte texture that disarms at a hundred paces. There is wondrous length here, a really classy Grands Echézeaux that is at the peak of its powers. Tasted at the La Paulée in Beaune.
