Dealing with the New Paradigm: Burgundy 2018 (Nov 2022)

The 2018 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru is very candied on the nose with perhaps too much blue fruit for my liking, rendering it quite Syrah-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, grippy with liquorice-tinged dark cherry fruit on the finish that shows just a little dryness. Trying a bit too hard compared to the Charmes? It might just be going through a dumb phase. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
