Herding Cats: Burgfest 2020 – The Reds (Oct 2024)

The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has an oaky and slightly Bretty nose that, at the moment, occludes the terroir profile. The palate is medium-bodied with thickset tannins, quite dense, and broad-shouldered, and it initially lacks the grace and poise of a top Gevrey but improves markedly with aeration. Cyrielle Rousseau conjured some magnificent wines in 2020, but this bottle doesn’t entirely pass muster. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
