La Lumière Noire: 2019 Burgundy – Côte de Beaune (Dec 2020)

The 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from a parcel between Faiveley and Thibault Liger-Belair. Matured in 30–40% whole bunch and matured in a one-year-old barrel, it has a very expressive, slightly ferrous bouquet, a little tight at first but opening up with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a very silky entry and modest depth but very well delineated toward the finish. White pepper and clove notes linger on the aftertaste. Very fine, and it will probably drink without too much bottle age.
