La Lumière Noire: 2019 Burgundy – Côte de Nuits (Dec 2020)

The 2019 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru, blended with 70% whole bunch and 50% new oak, was pretty reduced on the nose when I tasted it from barrel. So, bypassing the aromatics, the palate is medium-bodied with chunky, forthright tannins. This is much more masculine than the Charmes-Chambertin, touches of melted tar and tobacco appearing toward the finish, which feels a little conservative by comparison. Hopefully it will develop more charm by the time it is bottled.
