Looking Backward/Looking Forward: 2000 vs 2001 Bordeaux (Sep 2021)

The 2000 Pavillon Rouge de Château Margaux is actually a vintage that I have never tasted before. For me, this is a little more mature than the 2001, with black plum, loam and pressed flower scents of pastille-like purity. Like the 2001, this has certainly held up well. The palate is medium-bodied, fuller and more muscular than the 2001, offering black currant and raspberry mixed with white pepper and cedar. Delivers fine grip and structure on the quite rich and dense finish. Excellent.
