Looking Backward/Looking Forward: 2000 vs 2001 Bordeaux (Sep 2021)

The 2000 Domaine de Cambes does not quite possess the same amplitude on the nose vis-à-vis the 1998 tasted alongside, yet it displays a charming, straightforward character, suggesting forest floor, autumn leaves and faint traces of orange blossom. The balanced palate offers slightly rustic tannins and melted red berry fruit intermixed with leather and black pepper. Just a little dryness creeps in toward the finish. At 21 years of age, this has certainly lasted and matured well, but I would drink bottles in the not-too-distant future.
