Looking Backward/Looking Forward: 2000 vs 2001 Bordeaux (Sep 2021)

The 2001 Nenin is one that I have not tasted for several years. Lavender and potpourri scents feature on the nose, which is quite backward at first but opens in the glass, though it lacks the complexity of more recent vintages under Jean-Hubert Delon. The plummy palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and muscular tannins, and firm and solid toward the finish. This 2001 shows a touch more precision and a little more length. Drink now and over the next 6–10 years.
