Looking The Part: Pichon-Baron 1953 – 2015 (Jan 2019)

The 1984 Pichon-Baron is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon due to the frost, and a vintage that I have never encountered before. It has a light and rather monotone bouquet with touches of singed leather and autumn leaves, and little in the way of fruit. The palate is actually better than you would expect, offering light tobacco-tinged black fruit and a touch of dried blood, and short in the mouth but not offensive in the slightest. Tasted at the Pichon-Baron vertical at the château.
