Looking The Part: Pichon-Baron 1953 – 2015 (Jan 2019)

The 1982 Pichon-Baron was tasted from two bottles since the first felt a little cooked. The musty, earthy, mushroom-scented bouquet lacks the complexity and vivacity of its peers, not least the 1982 Pichon-Lalande. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin. This now feels a little mealy in the mouth, with some dryness toward the final third that does not entice you back for another sip. Despite laudatory comments elsewhere, having tasting this several times, I find the 1982 Pichon Baron to be very ordinary. Tasted at the Pichon-Baron vertical at the château.
