Looking The Part: Pichon-Baron 1953 – 2015 (Jan 2019)

The 2007 Pichon-Baron has a light, slightly earthy bouquet that appears less fruit-driven than previous bottles. Mulch and woodland aromas nudge past the light black fruit, implying that the aromatics will mature more quickly than other recent vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with gritty tannin, moderate depth and chewy black fruit, though the finish seems to have dispensed with the precision that I discerned in its youth. I wonder if this has peaked. Tasted at the Pichon-Baron vertical at the château.
