Lower Your Sails (Or Breeches): Beychevelle 1929-2019 (Mar 2023)

The 2014 Beychevelle has a very strong, pretty surprising medicinal/cough candy scent on the nose that I have never noticed on previous bottles. I presume that it derives from the highest percentage of Merlot and small yield (38hl/ha). Actually, I find this detracts from its typicité. The palate is very smooth on the entry, with good concentration here, though it seems to miss a bit of tension. Lightly spiced red fruit towards the seductive finish, but I have encountered better, more engaging bottles than this in the past. Tasted at the Beychevelle vertical at the property.
