Myth Over Matter: Mature Burgundy 1920-2019 (Mar 2023)

The 2009 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a lucid hue with light bricking on the rim. It has an intriguing bouquet with a touch of menthol and hoisin, almost Bandol-like in style. Some brettanomyces perhaps? The palate is medium-bodied, harmonious and savory. The oak is just a little more pronounced and occludes some of the terroir expression on the finish. Yet unlike some of its peers in this vintage, this one improves and gains elegance in the glass. Tasted blind at the 2009 horizontal at Club 1243.
