Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2022 Richebourg Grand Cru comes 70% from the vines planted in 1931 and 1934, with individual vines re-planted. This vintage contains 30% whole clusters that are de-stemmed by hand. This feels very complex on the nose with blackberry, raspberry, forest floor and a subtle marine influence in the background. There is a touch of reduction, but it soon blows away. The palate is medium-bodied with finely tuned tannins and black fruit laced with (borrowing Thibaut’s observation here) a hint of black squid ink. Quite spicy and peppery towards the finish, this Richebourg lingers in the mouth, not wanting to let go. Excellent.
