Passing the Baton: Lynch-Bages 1945-2018 (Jul 2023)

The 1959 Lynch-Bages is a vintage that I last tasted four years earlier. This bottle is quite similar. It has a wonderful bouquet with expressive red berry fruit and orange rind. This bottle’s minty element is more conspicuous and perhaps almost too strong. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet core of red fruit deriving from that clement summer, with light touches of mandarin and orange sorbet. It’s fairly long and persistent on the finish so that you come away feeling satisfied. Not a flashy or ostentatious Pauillac, yet beautifully sculpted by time. Tasted at Medlar restaurant to celebrate the release of “The Complete Bordeaux”.
