Red Burgundy ’16 & ’15: Superb Vintages, Different Styles (Jan 2018)

(just 25 hectoliters per hectare produced in 2016, about 40% less than a normal year; these well-placed vines are situated in a normally humid spot not far from Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses): Dark red with ruby tones. Very ripe but slightly inky aromas of dark berries, minerals and bitter chocolate. Densely packed, concentrated and sweet, displaying terrific inner-mouth tension and Chambolle-like stony minerality. Finishes firmly tannic but not austere, with slowly rising length and very good grip. Classy, saline wine from vines that are now about 30 years old–and, in the opinion of van Canneyt, showing more depth than previously.
