Red Burgundy ’16 & ’15: Superb Vintages, Different Styles (Jan 2018)

Full dark red. Very ripe, spicy aromas of black and red cherry, boysenberry, licorice, violet and bitter chocolate. Displays the density of the vintage but also lovely inner-mouth floral lift and a light touch to its flavors of dark cherry, purple berries, minerals and licorice. Terrific grain and insidious sweetness here, with the extract and depth to easily carry its rather refined but dense, toothdusting tannins. A classy, rather dark Volnay with excellent savory persistence, a youthfully medicinal cherry and menthol element, and lingering sweetness–not to mention the intensity and energy to age gracefully. My sample held up beautifully for days in the recorked bottle.
