Red Burgundy ’16 & ’15: Superb Vintages, Different Styles (Jan 2018)

(from vines averaging about 47 years of age; vinified with 50% whole clusters and aged in one-third new oak): Healthy medium red. More red than black on the nose, with its red raspberry, red cherry, brown spice and coffee flavors complicated by lightly reductive notes of smoky minerals and leather. Supple on entry, then tighter in the middle; energized by an element of herbal, minty greenness and not as easygoing as the village Gevrey. A bit youthfully imploded today, this wine finishes with enticing saline minerality and sneaky length.
