Red Burgundy ’16 & ’15: Superb Vintages, Different Styles (Jan 2018)

(the yield here was barely ten hectoliters per hectare): Bright, dark red. Sexy aromas of blueberry, cranberry, raspberry, white pepper and smoke are complemented by a deep mineral pungency. An essence of sappy Pinot on the palate, with its highly concentrated black fruit and mineral flavors accented by flowers and spices. This glistening, fine-grained wine saturates the entire mouth without leaving any impression of weight. Perhaps most impressive today on the rising stony finish, which leaves behind a subtle sweetness and a complicating licorice note. This has near-grand cru class.
