Red Burgundy ’16 & ’15: Superb Vintages, Different Styles (Jan 2018)

(made entirely from Rugiens Bas, the lower portion of which suffered from frost): Bright, dark red. Aromas of red cherry, kirsch and licorice. Juicy and penetrating in the mouth, with terrific mineral-driven energy contributing to the wine’s savory impression. No easy sweetness here but ripe, smooth, deep and flavorful. Finishes with serious but refined tannins and excellent length. This is suaver than the 2015 version and will probably also give earlier pleasure.
