Rioja Looks Back and Ahead (Feb 2019)

(fermented in open-topped 500 and 100 liter French oak barrels; aged for two years in French oak barriques) Brilliant violet color. A hugely perfumed, complex bouquet evokes fresh blue fruits, exotic spices, incense and candied flowers. A smoky mineral nuance builds steadily as the wine opens up. Silky, seamless and impressively delineated on the palate, offering concentrated boysenberry, black raspberry, cola and vanilla flavors that show a surprisingly light touch given their power. The mineral and floral notes drive an impressively long, supple finish that’s framed by velvety tannins that fold into the wine’s intense berry fruit.
