Sicily: The Island Nation (Jun 2021)

Wet stone, wild strawberries and nuances of sweet spice waft up from the 2017 Etna Rosso San Lorenzo. This pretty and soft-textured effort seduces with its ripe and fleshy red fruits and rosy inner floral tones. There’s not a hard edge in sight, yet balance remains firmly intact as the 2017 leans more toward sour cherry and licorice through the long, dramatic finale. This rendition of San Lorenzo may not be a wine for the ages, but it is a pleasure today and will likely remain so over the next three to five years.
