South Africa’s Ongoing Wine Revolution (Jun 2015)

(14.7% alcohol; aged for 16 months in 80% new French oak): Dark, saturated ruby. Aromas of blueberry, violet, licorice and cedar. Lovely penetration to the clean, dark flavors of cassis and bitter chocolate. Shows none of the burnt rubber or woodsmoke elements that still plague some examples of Pinotage. Finishes firmly tannic and backward but without any hardness. This wine’s structure and compelling sugar/acid balanace should ensure a long and graceful evolution in bottle.
