Test of Endurance: Bordeaux 2014 Ten Years On (Mar 2024)

The 2014 Tertre-Rôteboeuf has a high-toned bouquet with macerated red cherries, raspberry coulis and wild heather scents. It is quite Burgundian in style, with what feels like toastier oak. As usual, blind, it stylistically is sui generis. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent fleshy red fruit, silky smooth in texture, not deep and lacking grip. That said, it slips down the throat with ease. Like Sade, a “smooth operator”, even though François Mitjavile has crafted superior vintages in recent years. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.
