The 2013 Red Burgundies (Jan 2015)

Good deep red. Cassis, black cherry, dark plum and crushed stone on the sappy, high-pitched nose. Dense and thick but energetic as well, offering captivating inner-mouth perfume to the black fruit, violet, spice and licorice flavors. Shows a medicinal reserve and a youthful roughness to its tannins on the long, spicy back end. These vines were planted in 1921 and 1923 on a limestone-rich hillside. Owing partly to the tiny berries here, the production in 2013 was just 18.5 hectoliters per hectare, according to Liger-Belair.
