The Consistently Delectable 2014 Red Burgundies (Jan 2016)

(Boillot’s fruit comes from 50+-year-old vines that produced 30 hectoliters per hectare in 2014; there’s one new and one one-year-old barrel of this juice): Bright, dark red. Brooding, classic Bonnes-Mares aromas of black cherry, wild dark berries, mocha, licorice, brown spices, menthol, stone and roasted herbs. A pure, velvety confection in the mouth; wonderfully subtle and suave but also sharply chiseled and penetrating thanks to its powerful spine of acids and tannins. This outstanding expression of stony soil finishes with superb length and lift.
