The Undiscovered Burgundy (Jun 2017)

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts is delicate and nicely lifted, with good aromatic presence. Delicate, sweet spice, floral notes, red stone fruits and mint are nicely delineated. This is an especially sculpted wine, particularly within the context of the vintage. The Petits Monts is bottled only in magums and jeroboams. Sadly, there is just one barrel of this juice. Charles Noellat made a Petits Monts in 1978 and 1979, but hail damage in ’79 forced the estate to sell one of its vineyard for economic reasons. As the smallest of the family’s parcels, the Petits Monts was sacrificed. It’s virtually impossible to imagine such a scenario in today’s Burgundy.
