The Wines of Emidio Pepe: 1964 – 2001 (Oct 2006)

The afternoon closed with three lovely wines from the 1960s and 1970s that are a testament to the longevity of the estate’s wines. Though fully mature none of the wines appeared to be in a state of decline. Hard as is may seem to believe, this 1975 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo takes things to another level. It offers an irresistible profile of earth, licorice, leather and sweet dark fruit sensations supported by youthful structure, closing with a long, ethereal finish. Owing to the cooler vintage it is firmer and fresher than the 1979. This was the highlight of the afternoon.
