Three Vertical Tastings (Sep 2004)

Full, deep red. Deeply pitched aromas of chocolate, game and smoke; much more evolved than the ’85. Sweet, lush and open-knit, with mature flavors of truffle and cinders. Finishes with slightly edgy acids and a touch of dryness. 1986 was rainier than usual, and we weren’t in a position to harvest perfectly ripe grapes, noted Duroux. This was probably better in the mid-’90s.
