Variations on a Theme: Burgundy 2020 Whites (Jul 2024)

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a slightly disjointed bouquet, not as well knit as its peers, with touches of beeswax, lavender oil and rosemary. The palate is well-balanced. It’s a “nimble” Grand Cru, thanks to the silver bead of acidity. There’s more tension here due to what feels like a lower pH, lemon curd and subtle Indian spices surfacing towards its composed finish. Perhaps it could do with a little more length, but otherwise, it has brightness and vivacity. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
