Vertical Tasting of Chateau du Tertre (Jan 2012)

(a blend of 40% cabernet sauvignon, 37% merlot, 17% cabernet franc and 6% petit verdot): Purple ruby. Strikingly pure aromas of black plum, blackcurrant, violet, ink, vanilla and white chocolate on the captivating, aromatic nose. Very fresh and clean on entry, then rich and suave in the middle, with lovely inner-mouth perfume to the flavors of strawberry, blackcurrant, vanilla and white pepper. This has a much creamier, softer mouthfeel than the more penetrating, minerally 2010. Finishes long and clean, with persistent inky and sexy floral notes. Very well balanced and focused, this is a great effort from du Tertre and strikes me as potentially one of the estate’s 5 or 6 wines of the last 40 years.
