Vingt-Vingt Vins: Bordeaux 2020 (May 2021)

The 2020 Peymouton is very precocious on the nose, more so than the La Serre that I tasted alongside, delivering copious cassis and kirsch mixed with vanilla pod. It’s just a bit trop. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a touch of graphite infusing the layered blackberry and bilberry fruit, segueing into quite a saline finish that is more structured than the nose suggests. This will deserve 3–4 years in bottle, during which those feisty aromatics will hopefully gain more composure.
